CAD-embedded SOLIDWORKS Simulation enables every designer and engineer to carry out thermal analysis at any stage of design to ensure that every component and assembly performs properly within expected temperature ranges, and spot safety issues before they arise. Thermal analysis calculates the temperature and heat transfer within and between components in your design and its environment. In this course, SOLIDWORKS Simulation – Thermal Analysis, you'll learn how to apply conduction, convection, and radiation loads in a static or time-dependent manner on your parts or assemblies. First, you'll dive into a background of thermal analysis, including a basic understanding of the modes of heat transfer. Next, you'll explore how to perform a thermal analysis on a graphics card, and take a look at steady state and transient analysis to understand the effects of time. Finally, you'll learn how to perform a stress analysis with a temperature load to ensure the design stays within the guidelines required. By the end of the course, you'll have the necessary knowledge to efficiently setup and run a thermal analysis. Software required: SOLIDWORKS.

Hello and welcome to this course on SOLIDWORKS Simulation Thermal Analysis. My name is Arvind Krishnan and I work at GoEngineer as an Applications Engineer supporting our users in the Dallas-Forth Worth and Oklahoma regions. I also teach the different SOLIDWORKS Simulation tools. In this Simulation Course, we will be primarily talking about Heat Transfer. If your designs have to function properly during the summers of Texas or the winters of Minnesota, it is important to understand the effects of temperature changes to your design. Some of the things that will be covered in this course: the background information for performing a Thermal Analysis with Finite Element Analysis including a basic understanding of the modes of Heat Transfer namely Conduction, Convection and Radiation. Then, we will switch to SOLIDWORKS and perform a Thermal Analysis on a Graphics Card. A steady state and Transient Analysis will be done to understand the effects of time. Once the temperature distribution is calculated, we will run a Stress Analysis to see whether the temperature change causes significant deformation to the part or not. By the end of this course you will be able to successfully setup and run a Thermal Analysis and apply a Thermal Load in a Linear Static Analysis. Some of the prerequisites to this course are knowing the SOLIDWORKS interface, having a basic understanding of Finite Element Analysis and also knowing how to run a Linear Static Analysis.
