We're nearing the end of our Pluralsight Learning Path for the CompTIA A+ 220-902 Certification Exam. A learning path is a series of related courses, the first of which was an introduction, and then a course on Windows operating systems, other operating systems including Linux and OS 10, security, software troubleshooting, and where we are right now, operational procedures. Within each course is a series of related modules. In the Operational Procedures course, we have five modules in total. We began with using appropriate safety procedures. Today, we're covering environmental controls and the subsequent three modules are Addressing Prohibited Content and Activity, Demonstrating Professionalism, and Explaining Troubleshooting Theory. In this module, we have two learning goals. One is reviewing various environmental controls and two is understanding the Materials Safety Data Sheet or MSDS documentation. That may be a part of your life as an IT professional depending upon where you work. Let's get started.
Addressing Prohibited Content and Activity Hi there, and welcome to Pluralsight. My name is Tim Warner, and this module is entitled Addressing Prohibited Content and Activity. We're working through actually finishing up our Pluralsight learning path for the CompTIA A+ 220-902 Certification Exam. The first short course is an introduction and then we got into Windows operating systems, other operating systems, security, software troubleshooting, and now we're ending with some of the less-technical, maybe more softer or social skills in the CompTIA A+ skillset. We have five modules in this operational procedures course. The first is called Using Appropriate Safety Procedures. Next, we have applying appropriate environmental controls. We're on module three today addressing prohibited content and activity. Module four is concerned with demonstrating professionalism, and we wrap up with explaining troubleshooting theory. In this module, I'm going to teach you the rules of the game with regard to incident response. Now that buzzword or that term or phrase, whatever you want to call it, has a lot of baggage to it. We could do an entire course on incident response, but I'm going to give you the Cliff Notes version over the next 30 minutes or so. We'll also look at licensing, digital rights management, and end-user license agreements because I think this is especially important actually because in my experience many people including IT professionals don't understand how software licensing works. Finally, we'll consider PII or Personally Identifiable Information and the importance of end-user security policies. Let's get started. There's some good, very practical, useful content in this module.

We're nearing the end of our Pluralsight learning path for CompTIA A+ 220-902. The courses which you're probably well-familiar with by now were and are Introduction, Windows OS, Other Operating Systems, Security, Software Troubleshooting, and the final course, Operational Procedures. As you also probably know, we have five modules in total for this Operational Procedures course. The first is Using Appropriate Safety Procedures, then Applying Appropriate Environmental Controls, Addressing Prohibited Content and Activity, Demonstrating Professionalism, where we are right now, and we'll finish with Explaining Troubleshooting Theory. Yes, indeed we are firmly in the realm of soft skills here. A hard skill would be something like being able to field strip a computer or reinstall an operating system. A soft skill by contrast deals with how well you relate interpersonally. I've said this many times before that CompTIA's A+ is an entry-level credential, so you may wind up working on a service desk where you're dealing customer support over the phone. By contrast, you may be doing face-to-face support, visiting customers at their homes or in their businesses, or just working within your organizational structure. Long story short, in this module, we're going to give you some nutshell wisdom from CompTIA on proper communication techniques, as well as professional behavior. Before you dismiss this, I know that some students tend to dismiss the soft skills as irrelevant. Please don't fall prey to that trap. I submit anybody can pick up some really good pointers just by having your mind a little bit open, so stick with me, alright? Let's get going.
Explaining Troubleshooting Theory Hello, and welcome to Pluralsight. My name is Tim Warner, and this module is entitled Explaining Troubleshooting Theory. We're at the very end of our Pluralsight learning path for the CompTIA A+ 220-902 Certification Exam, also called the Software Test. The first course in the path is a brief introduction, and then each subsequent course as I'm sure you know are Windows OS, other operating systems, security, software troubleshooting, and where we are now, operational procedures, and that those five content domains map exactly to the content domains on CompTIA's published 220-902 objective blueprint. Check the exercise files for a link on that. And this is the fifth and final module of the operational procedures course. The first module was safety procedures, then environmental controls, prohibited content and activity, professionalism, and today, explaining troubleshooting theory. But wait, Tim, you might be asking, didn't you already teach me about CompTIA's six-step troubleshooting model? Well yes, I have, so this is largely a review for you. We're going to start with a couple general principles, especially dealing with applying a troubleshooting methodology in a large enterprise environment, and then we're going to walk through each of the six steps of the CompTIA troubleshooting methodology in depth, so it's just crystal clear in your mind. Let's get started. Our CompTIA A+ 220-902 objective is the final one of the exam, 5. 5, that says very briefly, given a scenario, explain the troubleshooting theory.
