Hello! My name is David Chappell, and I’m the author of Cloud Computing: The Big Picture, here at Pluralsight. You hear a lot about cloud computing these days. Ever wonder what that means, and where it fits into your daily job? That’s what this course is designed to teach you. You’ll explore applications in the cloud (commonly called Software as a Service, or SaaS), an overview of cloud platforms, including Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, as well as private clouds (bringing cloud technology on premises). By the time you’re done, you’ll know what cloud computing is all about and be ready to start exploring specific implementations. It’s all ready and waiting for you – jump in whenever you’re ready, and thanks for visiting me here at Pluralsight.

Hi everybody, I’m David Chappell. Welcome to my course Cloud Computing: The Big Picture.

I’m the Principal of Chappell And Associates in San Francisco, California.

I’m convinced that the rise of cloud computing is among the most important trends of our time. I don’t care what your role is; if you work in technology, cloud computing is affecting you. You might write code that runs on a cloud platform like Amazon Web Services or Azure or maybe your organization is creating a private cloud that you’ll need to manage. And whoever you are, I know that you use cloud applications.

This course provides a broad introduction to cloud computing. I don’t assume that you have any prior knowledge of the topic.

The major topics we’ll cover are:

  • Cloud applications, which are commonly referred to as Software as a Software or SaaS
  • Cloud platforms
  • Private clouds
By the end of this course, you’ll know enough to go deeper, if you choose to, into more specialized cloud topics. You’ll also be able to do a better job working with and making decisions about cloud computing.

I hope you’ll join me to learn about this important topic with the Pluralsight course Cloud Computing: The Big Picture.
